Ruta Remake at CAC Vilnius

Ruta Remake

sign system, sound system, cables, light system, computer, theramidi, curtain, edition, voice lab / CAC, Vilnius / 2004

The space at CAC, Vilnius is separated and joined the same time by the curtain that encloses viewers and listeners with the further development of Ruta pattern leading to the artistic production that works with the reading of the Voice archive. The curtain that unfolds two further parts featuring the digital interface of notation and camouflage mixed into one pattern suggests the further development that unfolds in the space behind the curtain.

The camouflage part that joins political discussion on headscarves introducing the fashion aspect into the play and producing limited edition is furthered with mixing workshop that works with and within a framework of provided Voice archive to instigate the series of dialogues with a younger generation of female music producers.

Fabric / headscarves / edition
RR remake that is presented in Vilnius has a new element, namely one of fashion. Collaborating with fashion designer Sandra Straukaite, a fabric has been designed for this remake. Its ornamentation is based on a mix of a camouflage pattern and the Ruta pattern encountered on the curtain as well as in the film archive footage.

In this remake of RR the fabric turns into multi-functional headscarves camouflaged in the way that does not hide the Ruta notation, but extends it, re-reading the traditional functions and connotations of this piece of clothing and opening a new possibility of playing “from the headscarves”.
